Jonathan Wensley

“Hello Wakefield Awards entrants, supporters, and those looking to attend the swanky event,

I am Jonathan Wensley, Director of NextGen EHS and founder of the EHS ADD:VANTAGE professional community. With over 16 years of experience in senior EHS management roles across various sectors, I specialise in practical and proportionate EHS practices. My work with global, complex, and high-risk businesses, local authorities, and SMEs is a testament to my versatility.

In January 2021, driven by my passion for simplifying EHS risk management and making it more practical, I started my own consultancy, NextGen EHS. right here in Wakefield. Having encountered my fair share of dodgy Health, Safety and Environmental consultants, I knew I had much more to offer than just serving one company. I established NextGen EHS to share my expertise with a larger audience and to challenge practices, making EHS an enabler and partner in supporting sustainable business growth.

Two years later, I was honoured with the Wakefield Business Award for Collaboration of the Year for our innovative Long-term Illnesses documentary and training course ‘Life With Long COVID,’ created in partnership with the NHS, Calderdale Council, and a plethora of Wakefield businesses. This reflects the approach I’ve always taken in EHS risk management – after all, it’s the only way to make a difference.

As a Chartered Member of IOSH, Practitioner Member of IEMA, and registered consultant with OSCHR, my credentials and unique beginnings in London’s culinary scene define my approach—efficient, effective, and engaging EHS risk management.

As a judge for this year’s Wakefield Business Awards, I am really excited to give something back and read all about what other businesses have been up to and how they’ve made a difference to the business community.

P.S. For anyone looking to attend, please remember that people have worked extremely hard to be here and be nominated for an award. Please be respectful when the compare is talking – 2 ears, 1 mouth order of priority 😊

Jonathan Wensley
