We Are Wakefield is delighted to announce that Sir Rodney Walker will be taking up the role of Chair from September 2022.

A much respected Wakefield business leader, Sir Rodney was the awarded Freedom of the City in 2012 and the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Wakefield Business Awards. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and a member of The Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor.

This not-for-profit organisation based in Newmillerdam creates community settings where families, young people and adults, many with learning disabilities, can live, learn and work together in an atmosphere of mutual co-operation, care and respect.

Camphill is inspired by the ideas of Rudolf Steiner and developed by Dr. Karl König, the founder of Camphill. It is based on the spiritual uniqueness of each person, regardless of their differences.

It is a worldwide movement dedicated to building communities where everyone can find purpose and belonging. A group of refugees led by Dr. Karl König founded the first Camphill community in Aberdeen in 1940, they found their purpose living and working with children with learning disabilities. At that time people with learning disabilities were excluded from education and many other parts of society. Camphill took the opposite approach and created communities where the individuality and potential of every young person was developed.

We Are Wakefield & Bluebird Care raise over £100 for The Prince of Wales Hospice

Following the great response to the Afternoon Tea to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee earlier this week, We Are Wakefield and Bluebird Care Wakefield & Kirklees managed to raise more than £100 for The Prince of Wales Hospice.

These kind of events, where we collaborate with our members, really are what we are about. Working together with each other, to help raise money for a great charity in Wakefield is something that we pride ourselves on, and having raised so much money for those who need it most, makes the hard work worth it.

During the day, We Are Wakefield members and other local businesses were invited down to the Bluebird HQ to get to know one another, take part in a raffle & of course, celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with an Afternoon Tea.

All proceeds of the raffle have been donated to the Hospice, so they can continue to provide vital work needed to care for their patients.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who came and joined in the celebrations with us… you made the day what it was!
