“Rarely have I encountered such togetherness” Sir Rodney Walker – Chair, We Are Wakefield

Over 130 businesses attended the We Are Wakefield First Friday Networking event at Nostell Priory on 2nd September to see Sir Rodney Walker take up post as Chair of the organisation.

We Are Wakefield is a not-for-profit organisation and the fastest growing business community in the Wakefield District, supporting over 130 member businesses.

Following the event, hosted by Nostell Estate and National Trust, Nostell, Sir Rodney said,

“As the incoming Chair, I want to pay tribute to Claire Sutherley for the organisation she is building.  Rarely have I encountered such “togetherness” as was in evidence this morning and confirmed by the new board of trustees and the large number of supporting comments on LinkedIn.

The work begun by Clare Thornton (Vice Chair) in looking to reorganise the organisation will create a firm base on which to build.

We all face financial challenges, both in our private and business lives, and even though I am confident the incoming government will take steps to minimise the the worst effects of the energy crisis there can never be a better time for the businesses of Wakefield to come together to support each other.  That’s what We Are Wakefield exists to promote.

I feel fortunate to have been invited to play a part in helping the organisation support the business community of Wakefield.”

Managing Director, Claire Sutherley, responded, “I am honoured and excited  that Sir Rodney Walker will be guiding myself and the board to strengthen We Are Wakefield’s position in supporting our wonderful community.”
