Thomas Wales

Thomas Wales is the Chief Executive of Wakefield Business Improvement District (BID), having joined the organisation in April. In his brief tenure, Thomas has already made a significant impact, building on the solid foundation established since the BID’s inception in 2017. Wakefield BID is known for delivering a variety of high-quality events and festivals that draw thousands of visitors to the city centre, significantly boosting the local economy.

These initiatives not only celebrate Wakefield’s rich cultural heritage but also provide a substantial economic boost. Notably, Thomas has played a crucial role in supporting Wakefield Pride, an event that alone generates just under £1 million for the local economy.

Although new to the role, Thomas is dedicated to advancing initiatives that enhance the city centre’s appeal, making it a more attractive destination for both residents and visitors. He is committed to fostering strong partnerships to improve city centre security, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

As a passionate advocate for local businesses, Thomas ensures their voices are heard in key discussions and decisions impacting the city. His fresh perspective and commitment to the community have established him as a respected leader and a driving force behind Wakefield’s ongoing transformation.

Thomas Wales will also bring his extensive experience and deep understanding of the business landscape to his role as a judge at the Wakefield Business Awards, where he will help recognise and celebrate the achievements of the local business community.

Thomas joins the Wakefield Business Awards panel for the first time for 2024.
