We Are Wakefield businesses raise over £4,000 to help heat homes

On the coldest night of 2021 a collection of We Are Wakefield members set about raising vital funds for the Community Foundation Wakefield District’s Challenge 25 appeal.  The money raised would go to families within the Wakefield District who were suffering from Fuel Poverty.

Not everyone is clear what “Fuel Poverty” actually means.  Fuel Poverty Describes A Household That Cannot Afford To Keep Warm Due To Fuel Costs.

Little did we know just a few months ago how relevant this would be today.

The Wakefield Business Collective team were made up of: Jodie Lawton – The Will Way, Samantha Stones – WF Web Design, Antony De Csernatony – Kraft Koffee, Craig Shepherd – The Community Foundation Wakefield District, Claire Sutherley – We Are Wakefield, Mandy Plues – Yorkshire Mental Health First Aid, Andrew Plues – JaJa Photography, Lorna Blackett – Crest Commercial Finance, Jenna Fan – Fanfare Music, Mark Harris – Ipex Technologies.

Jenna kicked off the fundraising by performing a song everyday for 25 days and broadcast live to Facebook viewers.  Antony obtained a signed Tyson Fury boxing glove to give away in a raffle and also arranged a meet and great with the Gypsy King for a sizeable donation to the fund!  The rest of the team decided to brave the cold and see for themselves how it feels not to be able to put on the heating when it’s freezing outside.  They bunked down in a plastering warehouse for the night and the sponsorship rolled in as the snow fell outside!

The team raised a whopping £4084.79 to help families in need on our district.  Great things happen when we work together.  We Are Wakefield.  Are you?
