National Earth Day is an annual event held on April 22 to show support and unity for the environment – the 2022 theme is Invest In Our Planet.
The first event was held in 1970, and every year has grown into a day that is recognised globally by more than 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.
We Are Wakefield is a business that recognises that climate change poses a threat to our economy, nature, society, and the entirety of the planet. And that’s why we’ve vowed to change.
Earlier this year in January, we signed up to the SME Climate Hub and committed to taking immediate action in order to:
- Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030
- Achieve net zero before 2050
- Disclose our progress on a yearly basis
By doing this, we are immensely proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join many other governments, businesses, cities, regions, and other worldwide entities that have the same vision as us.
MD of We Are Wakefield, Claire, explains:
“We all need to work together to protect future generations from climate change.
“It is important that our legacy does not compromise the wellbeing of our planet and that we take responsibility as individuals, parents, business leaders and human beings.
“At We Are Wakefield we are determined to become a net zero business and base all decisions we make around sustainability. We need to act now to ensure we reverse the detrimental effects we have created.”
